About Instawork

Instawork connects businesses with go-to hourly workers near them, making it easy for everyone to work on their own terms. Businesses post shifts for position and shifts are then accepted based on availability.

Optimizing the interface could provide a more intuitive and accessible platform for part-time workers, ensuring they could effortlessly navigate and apply for jobs.

Problem

The app required a redesign to cater to the needs of part-time workers. Some issues found were:

  • Complex job-search interface
  • Lengthy application process
  • Limited visibility into relevant job opportunities

Solution

Introduced and improved a user-centric interface for part-time workers.

  • Implemented and refined a user-centric job interface for part-time workers
  • Enhanced visibility of relevant job opportunities
  • Simplified application process

User Pain Points

We conducted 12 usability tests (unmoderated) via UserBrain where users expressed frustration with lengthy and complex application forms during the job application process. We learned that they seek a more simplified UI and filters that match their job type. Overall, we aimed to provide a more personalized experience, access to more relevant job opportunities and a simplified job-search interface.

User Flow

I collaborated with the PM’s and various teams to create an improved onboarding flow that considered user pain points, operational constraints, and upcoming changes. This involved numerous stakeholder meetings and iterations.

Design System
